Over the past few weeks, various reports have come out stating that talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is not nearly as nice as her onscreen persona suggests. Now, it appears that these reports are finally taking a toll on her.

“Ellen is at the end of her rope,” a source close to DeGeneres told Us Weekly. “She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters. But it’s not a passing thing — the hits just keep coming.”

Things began to go downhill for DeGeneres last month when it was reported that she had left her crew in the dark for weeks when it came to payment and future employment after production of her show shut down due to the coronavirus. After that report came out, beauty influencer Nikkie de Jager came forward to say that when DeGeneres was rude to her when she appeared on her show earlier this year.

Earlier this month, a man who acted as DeGeneres’ bodyguard when she hosted the 2014 Academy Awards said that she “is cold.”

“It’s bugged me for years,” Tom Majercak told Fox News. “I see this person come across as being very enlightened and positive and awesome and everybody loves her and is in awe and that’s really not the case when you meet her in person.”

“When you see her on TV, people fall in love with her but it is a false facade and bravado,” he continued.  “You start hearing these stories and I was like, ‘Man, there’s got to be more to this.’ She’s not the person she portrays to be that she’s playing off of society. That’s my opinion.”

Another source said that as DeGeneres’ behind the scenes behavior continues to come to light, she has been leaning on her wife Portia de Rossi more than ever.

“Ellen’s so grateful to have Portia in her life as a soulmate and a sounding board, but that doesn’t mean it’s been easy,” the source said. “Their home life is strained right now. … Her real friends never ask her to be funny or tell jokes. They accept her as is.”

In the end, despite everything that has happened in the past few weeks, the insider does not think DeGeneres is going anywhere anytime soon.

“Ellen’s been in our homes for so long, it’ll take a lot more than a bodyguard and a blogger to change how people feel about her,” the insider said. “Her best response is just being happy Ellen on the show every day.”
