The royal family has been fraught with controversy as of late, particularly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired last month. Despite this, a source has come forward to say that Queen Elizabeth is still convinced that everything will end up alright with her family.
“She has been through so many difficult times,” a royal insider told People Magazine. “She knows things will come right in the end.”
The Queen’s former palace press secretary Charles Anson added that the monarch “absorbs things quietly.”
The Queen celebrated her 95th birthday on Wednesday, and it was a difficult one for the Queen, as it comes less than two weeks after she lost her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip. He passed away on April 9 at Windsor Castle at the age of 99, just two months shy of his 100th birthday.
“I have, on the occasion of my 95th birthday today, received many messages of good wishes, which I very much appreciate. While as a family we are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to us all to see and to hear the tributes paid to my husband, from those within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world,” she said in a statement to mark her birthday.
“My family and I would like to thank you for all the support and kindness shown to us in recent days,” the Queen added. “We have been deeply touched, and continue to be reminded that Philip had such an extraordinary impact on countless people throughout his life.”
Harry traveled back to the United Kingdom for the first time in over a year to attend the funeral last Saturday. He then rose some eyebrows when he flew back home to California on Tuesday instead of staying an extra day for the Queen’s birthday. Page Six reported that the “conflicted” Harry decided that it was more important to travel home to see his pregnant wife Meghan on Tuesday. The 36 year-old royal reportedly flew back to California on an American Airlines that landed on Tuesday afternoon, and he was then driven to his mansion in Montecito.
