Days after admitting that her ongoing divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock has been “horrible,” the singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson is opening up about how she’s focusing on reorganizing her life and getting it together.
During Tuesday’s episode of her eponymous talk show, Clarkson said that she could identify with her guest Fran Drescher’s motivations for a “peaceful” space.
“When I bought this house, I was getting a divorce from my first husband and I was still on the show The Nanny and my life was very complicated and intense and busy,” said Drescher, who is best known for starring on “The Nanny.”
“I needed something that was extremely calming and very pristine to make me feel very peaceful,” she added.
“It’s like you were in my last therapy session,” Clarkson said in agreement. “I got a new house, it’s very white and clean [for] the same reasoning. And I also redid my office here [at the show]. I looked at Kevin in our art department and I was like, ‘Please help me make this make sense.'”
The 38 year-old former “American Idol” winner added that the changes she’s been making have made her “feel cleansed” amid the chaos surrounding her split from the father of her two children.
“I just wanted to feel happy,” she explained. “The colors make me feel very good.”
This comes days after Clarkson admitted that her divorce had taken a “horrible” turn after Blackstock asked for $436,000 in monthly spousal and child support. If Blackstock gets his way, he’ll be getting $5.2 million per year from Clarkson.
“The level of conflict between the parents has increased,” the documents stated. “The parties have a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them.”
“Brandon’s been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees,” a source told People Magazine. “Kelly’s offered to pay for all the kids’ expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month.”
“I’m going through one right now. It’s horrible,” Clarkson said of her divorce after news of this development broke. “There are so many hard parts. The hardest for me is the kids. That’s the hardest for me. I think, as women especially, we’re trained… to take it all on, and you can deal with it, and you’re fine, but it’s your babies that you worry about.”
