The singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson is currently going through a bitter divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock, who is the son of country music icon Reba McEntire. Despite this messy situation, a source has come forward to say that Clarkson and McEntire are “staying close” throughout this, as the country star is not letting the divorce “affect” their friendship.
“Kelly and Reba have a bond that cannot be broken,” the source told Closer Weekly. “It may get a little awkward at times, but nothing is going to get in the way of Kelly and Reba’s relationship.”
The insider added that Clarkson and McEntire are “communicating with each other regularly” as the divorce continues.
“They’ve vowed not to let Kelly’s divorce from Brandon, or her issues with his dad, Narvel [Blackstock], and their business dealings, affect their friendship,” the source said, adding that though McEntire is “still very close to Brandon,” she will “always have Kelly’s back.”
According to the source, McEntire is “refusing to pick sides.”
“It’s a very fine line, but if anyone can do it, it’s Reba,” the insider explained.
That being said, McEntire is reportedly still heartbroken that Clarkson and Blackstock have split up.
“It’s really sad what’s going on, but these things happen during a divorce,” the source said. However, the insider added that both McEntire and Clarkson “have faith that it all will all eventually be worked out and they’ll be able to look back at this time as just a bump in the road.”
This comes weeks after Clarkson admitted that her divorce has been “horrible.”
“I’m going through one right now. It’s horrible,” she said of her divorce. “There are so many hard parts. The hardest for me is the kids. That’s the hardest for me.”
“I think, as women especially, we’re trained… to take it all on, and you can deal with it, and you’re fine, but it’s your babies that you worry about,” Clarkson added.
Court documents came out earlier this month confirming that Clarkson’s divorce had taken a nasty turn.
“The level of conflict between the parents has increased,” the documents stated. “The parties have a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them.”
