The royal family had a touching reunion on Tuesday after a long time apart amidst the coronavirus pandemic, and they made sure to adhere to social distancing guidelines by staying six feet apart from one another.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton ended their three day Royal Train tour on Tuesday by meeting up with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Princess Anne in the quadrangle of Windsor Castle. The royals gathered there to thank local volunteers and essential workers amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Salvation Army UK band performed for the royals before William and Kate met with essential workers from various charities and organizations who will be volunteering to help others over the holidays.

The royals were decked out in their Christmas colors for the event, with the Queen donning a red jacket and matching hat. Kate showed up in an emerald, fur-lined coat, while William was wearing a classic suit with a plaid scarf.

William and Kate had left on their Royal Train tour on Sunday, traveling all over the United Kingdom to meet with people and hear about their personal experiences with COVID-19. They made stops in Edinburgh, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Batley, Manchester, Cardiff, Bath, and Reading.

The tour ended just before the Christmas holiday, which will be quite different for the royals this year. For the first time since 1988, the Queen will not be spending Christmas at her Norfolk estate of Sandringham. Instead, she will be spending the holidays at Windsor Castle, where she has been socially isolating for the past few months with her husband, Prince Philip.

“Having considered all the appropriate advice, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have decided that this year they will spend Christmas quietly in Windsor,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement last week, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Hello! Magazine reported that Prince Charles and Camilla will be spending Christmas at Highgrove House in Gloucester, England. While William and Kate’s plans have not been officially confirmed, a student Daily Mail that the couple “still weren’t 100 percent sure of what they were going to do or where they were going to be” after speaking to them about their Christmas plans.
