Yesterday, we reported that Mrs. Sri Lanka was claiming that she suffered head injuries after the reigning Mrs. World ripped her crown off her head to hand it to the runner up. Now, it’s being reported that police have arrested Mrs. World 2020 winner Caroline Jurie on charges related to this incident.

“Police arrested Caroline Jurie and model Chula Padmendra over Sunday’s incident on charges of simple hurt and criminal cause,” police spokesman Ajith Rohana told BBC News. The two women are scheduled to appear in court on April 19.

The drama went down on Sunday night, when Pushpika De Silva won the “Mrs Sri Lanka,” and former winner Jurie was supposed to crown her. Instead, she ripped the crown off De Silva’s head and claimed that she was ineligible to be the winner because she was divorced, which is something that is against the rules in this pageant.

“There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and are divorced, so I am taking steps to make the crown go to second place,” Jurie said.

Both De Silva and Chandimal Jayasinghe, the national director of Mrs. Sri Lanka World, confirmed that she has never been divorced and is still legally married to her husband. After the dramatic incident, De Silva took to Facebook to say that she had to go to the hospital after the pageant to be treated for head injuries. She added that she plans to take legal action for the “unreasonable and insulting” way she was treated.

“There are a lot of single mums like me today who are suffering in Sri Lanka,” De Silva told reporters. “This crown is dedicated to those women, those single mums who are suffering to raise their kids alone.”

“We are disappointed,” Jayasinghe said after the incident. “It was a disgrace how Caroline Jurie behaved on the stage and the Mrs. World organization has already begun an investigation on the matter.”

This pageant is considered to be a major contest in Sri Lanka, as the prime minister’s wife was among the guests at the ceremony. Check out the incident for yourself in the video below.
