Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world earlier this year when they announced that they would be stepping down as senior members of the British royal family, but an explosive new book is claiming that this “Megxit” move was actually in the works for years, as they had planned it since “before they got married.”

This claim is made in the new book Finding Freedom, which was written with the couple’s knowledge and is set to be released in August.

“The book will explore the journey that Meghan and Harry went through in coming to the conclusion that they did,” a source told The Sun. “It will make clear that far from it being a snap decision that they took a long time to make it.”

“The seeds of Megxit were sown before they even got married,” the source added. “The truth is that Harry had been deeply unhappy for a long time. And he and Meghan openly discussed going in a different direction well before they got married.”

This comes after it was revealed that this book will shatter the notion that Meghan was the driving force behind “Megxit,” a it was instead allegedly Harry who drove their exodus from the royal family.

“That word ‘Megxit’ in particular has always angered Prince Harry. It gives the impression that the decision to walk away from the Royal Family was Meghan’s,” a publishing insider said. “The reality is Harry drove that decision. The book will make that clear and explain why it had to happen. The truth is Harry had been unhappy for a long, long time.”

Days after announcing their split from the royal family, Harry hinted at his simmering anger while speaking at a charity event.

“Once Meghan and I were married, we were excited, we were hopeful, and we were here to serve,” Harry said. “For those reasons, it brings me great sadness that it has come to this. The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back, is not one I made lightly.”

“It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges,” he added. “And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option.”

Since leaving the royal family, Harry and Meghan have moved to her hometown of Los Angeles, California, where they are staying at the $18 million Hollywood mansion of mogul Tyler Perry while they look for a home of their own in the area.
