It’s only been a few days since Meghan Markle officially ceased being a senior member of the British royal family, but her comeback in Hollywood has already begun.

In her first entertainment project since marrying Prince Harry, Meghan narrated the new Disneynature documentary Elephants, which began streaming on Disney + today. In conjunction with the release of the movie, filmmakers Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz have given new information on Meghan’s appearance in it and how it came to be.

Linfield and Berlowitz told People Magazine that they met Meghan over lunch during a trip to Botswana, and that she was immediately “absolutely intrigued” by the matriarchal society that exists in elephant herds.

“She was absolutely intrigued by the elephants and transfixed, especially by the female empowerment side,” says Berlowitz. “How important the matriarchs are to the story; it really is all about female leadership. It’s a different form of power — it’s about consensual leadership. It’s also very inclusive, as well — very contemporary. She was absolutely fascinated by that.”

The documentary filmmakers also said that Harry joined Meghan when she recorded her voiceover narration in London.

“The Duke of Sussex had his own Hollywood moment on set. He provided a little direction, from, as he put it ‘the cheap seats,'” Berlowitz said, with Linfield adding, “Harry was correcting her pronunciation.”

Filmmaker Roy Conli also spoke out to say that Meghan did her own improvising on set.

“She made it her own,” said Conli. “I always say, ‘If you feel something, do it, make it organic.’ She’s such a diligent professional and she wanted to get it right. It was a delight all the way around.”

Before marrying Harry, Meghan spent years working as an actress in Hollywood, most notably starring in the USA Network’s television show “Suits.” Though she gave up her career to marry Harry, she is obviously free to resume it now that she is no longer a senior member of the royal family. Given how quickly Meghan snatched up this role, it’s likely that this is only the beginning of her Hollywood comeback. We can’t wait to see what project she picks up next!
