The cutest video of a coyote and a badger playing beneath a busy highway in California has surfaced on the internet and people are loving it!

The footage captures the moment a coyote pounces playfully on the grass outside of a tunnel beneath a roadway – as it waits for its badger friend.

He then wags its tail before heading into the tunnel with its friend following close behind.

? Our wildlife cameras spotted this coyote and badger traveling together through a culvert (tunnel) under a highway in the South Bay. We believe this is the first observation of its kind documenting these two together. Studies have shown that a badger and coyote hunting together can be beneficial for both species, as they pursue favorite prey such as ground squirrels. Maybe that's where they're headed? The video was recorded by Peninsula Open Space Trust(POST) as part of a research program with their partners, Pathways for Wildlife.

And as soon as they shared the video to Twitter, Neal Sharma, POST’s Wildlife Linkages Program Manager said: “This video of the coyote and badger is one of our favorites, and it’s clearly captured the hearts of people around the world”.

Whilst this friendship may seen unlikely, studies show that it’s not uncommon for coyotes and badgers to hunt together.

The badger can dig into squirrels’ dens and once the prey comes to the surface, the coyote can chase it down.
