Over the past year, the singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson has been engaged in a bitter divorce battle with her estranged husband Brandon Blackstock. This week, Clarkson made a major request of a judge that indicates that her divorce battle is heating up.

Fox News reported that Clarkson has asked a judge to legally restore her last name in her ongoing divorce. This week, she has filed legal docs requesting a default judgment in the case which will officially make her a divorced woman.

While Clarkson has always kept her last name on stage, she’s still been signing her divorce records with the last name Blackstock.

“Petitioner requests restoration of the former name as set forth in the proposed judgment,” Clarkson’s latest legal documents state.

Clarkson and Blackstock are still trying to sort out their finances in the ongoing divorce battle. As of this writing, Clarkson is required to pay $150,000 to Blackstock each month in spousal support. She also must pay $45,601 per month to him in child support.

Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in June of last year citing “irreconcilable differences.” She shares two young children with him, River Rose, 7, and Remington Alexander, 5.

A source close to Clarkson recently claimed that she is having a difficult time dealing with these developments in her divorce proceedings.

“Kelly is dealing with all the emotions one can deal with concerning her divorce. She has been sad, angry, shocked and every emotion one can feel, she has felt it,” the insider said, according to Geo TV. “She never wanted it to get nasty, never wanted it to be a thing that she will have to deal with for a long time, but it is now a part of her everyday life.”

“She thinks it is crazy that she has to spend so much money in support. Her work is keeping her busy and away from it for a period of time in the day but it’s always in the back of her mind and it is clearly upsetting,” the source continued. “It is a very stressful and emotional time. We are almost certain to get some interesting music from it all.”
