Sarah Ferguson, the wife of the disgraced British royal Prince Andrew, is speaking out to defend him this week amidst his scandal regarding his alleged friendship with the late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew announced back in November of 2019 that he was stepping back from public royal duties “for the forseeable future” because of his ties to Epstein.
“Whatever challenges he has, I will stand firm to the co-parenters that we are together,” Ferguson told People Magazine of her relationship with Andrew. “I believe that he’s a kind, good man, and he’s been a fabulous father to the girls.”
Andrew and Sarah were married from 1986 to 1996, and they are the parents of two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 32, and Princess Eugenie, 31.
While Andrew has denied any knowledge of or involvement in Epstein’s alleged sex crimes, he added that he “deeply sympathizes” with the late billionaire’s victims. He also said that Epstein’s suicide “has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathize with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure.”
“I can only hope that, in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives,” Andrew added of the victims, according to Fox News.
Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre claims that Epstein forced her to have sex with Andrew on three occasions, including once when she was an underage 17 year-old. Andrew has denied this, but said that he would “help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations if required.”
Prosecutors in New York, however, have said that Andrew has actually not been cooperative. It is unknown at this time if he has indeed spoken with them or not.
As for Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah, she’s starting a new chapter in life, as she’s publishing her first novel titled “Her Heart for a Compass.” While Andrew is embroiled in scandal, Sarah seems to be trying to enjoy her life as much as possible.
“I have to be aware that trying to be perfect is no longer necessary,” Sarah said. “And that actually being Sarah is just enough.”
Sarah is also a new grandmother, as her daughter Eugenie welcomed her first child August earlier this year. Beatrice is currently pregnant with a baby that is due in the fall.
