Kate Middleton and Prince William first met back in 2001, when they were both students at the University of St. Andrews, and they began dating the following year when they moved into a student house together.
The couple would go on to marry in 2011, but in the years before that, it was not always smooth sailing for Kate and William.
The Express reported that Kate and William infamously went through a breakup back in 2007. When asked about this split during their engagement interview, William would only say that they had to “find their own way” and “grow up,” not giving any further details. However, reports have just resurfaced giving more insight into what really happened that led to this breakup.
Royal experts Laura Collins, Katie Nicholl and Ian Gallagher claimed that William had decided to dump Kate because he felt that the “fun” was gone from their relationship. Kate was reportedly “desperately upset” because she had always believed they would marry.
Kate was left fuming by William’s post-breakup behavior, as he was spotted partying at London nightclubs with various women. She was “humiliated” by William’s behavior and felt that he was cheapening her image, according to the experts.
One of her friends said that Kate confronted William.
“Kate told William that he was making her look bad,” the friend said. “She has coped for years with girls flinging themselves at her boyfriend and for a while she found it humorous and even flattering.”
“But after his recent behavior she gave him and ultimatum and told him that over the time he behaved like that in public he was cheapening her image as well as his own,” the friend continued. “She told him she wasn’t prepared to be treated like a doormat and that his carefree behavior was affecting her image. In the past she had always let go of things like that, but this really bothered her.”
William quickly realized his mistake and got back with Kate just three months after the breakup. They got married at Westminster Abbey in 2011 in a fairy tale wedding, and they have gone on to have three lovely children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
