Suzanne Somers of “Three’s Company” fame celebrated her husband Alan Hamel’s 85th birthday this past week by throwing on an apron over her metallic Norma Kamali sequined gown to cook him a fine gourmet meal.
The birthday dinner took place on June 30 at the couple’s recently sold Palm Springs compound.
“Candlelight only, dozens of them on white fine linens and large white antique oversized linen napkins,” Somers, 74, told Page Six, adding with “Red roses (of course)” and “ice cold Cristal Champagne in a silver ice bucket.”
The first course Somers made was “thin potato rounds baked in clarified butter, then topped with crème-fraiche and imperial black caviar,” followed by “mushroom/black truffle risotto.”
“All the produce came from their organic garden,” a friend of hers said. “She cooked it all except the caviar.”
As for desert, it was “hot chocolate soufflé with fresh whipped cream and chocolate sauce.”
“We dressed up for starters. He in his cool black tux with no tie, me in Kamali silver sequins,” Somers explained. She added that Hamel even carried a pair of Manolo Blahnik stiletto heels for her so she could walk the compound’s stairs in flats before dinner.
Somers sang “Happy Birthday” to Hamel in a touching moment which was streamed on Instagram Live. One viewer said that the couple enjoyed telling online guests about how Somers, “enjoys giving Alan testosterone shots in his butt every day and what happens next!”
The night ended with Somers and Hamel in their hot tub drinking tequila shots as some local bighorn sheep snuck a peak of the crazy-in-love couple, who have been married since 1977. The frisky Somers said in regards to what happened after that, “And then…. well, you know.”
Somers has previously been open about the active sex life she shares with Hamel.
“I may be in my 70s now, and I always thought when I got in this decade that it would be over and I just want people to know it ain’t over if you know how to take care of yourself,” said Somers.
“Aging is about worn out parts, so your hormones start declining, your nutrients start declining, your minerals start declining,” she continued. “So, what I write about in my books is how to put it all back together again. Our kids are raised, we paid for the weddings, we paid for the education and it’s now just me and Al. And God, we are having a great time. Yes, we have a lot of sex because we’re in balance, but also I have seven drinks a week too.”
“At five o’clock every night we have a tequila and maybe that’s why we have so much sex,” Somers concluded.
