Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late “Crocodile Hunter” himself Steve Irwin, is speaking out this week to make some disturbing allegations against her paternal grandfather, Bob Irwin.
In a new interview with 7News, Bindi was asked why she left her grandfather out of her Father’s Day social media post in which she honored her own father, her husband, Chandler Powell, and her father-in-law.
“Unfortunately my grandfather Bob has shown no interest in spending time with me or my family,” said Bindi, 22. “Publicly he continues to claim that he wants to spend time with us while privately me entire life has been psychological abuse from him.”
Not stopping there, Bindi went on to claim that Bob has even gone so far to return gifts she’s sent him over the years, after opening them.
“From the time I was a little girl he has ignored me,” she continued. “Preferring to spend time doing anything else rather than being with me. He has never said a single kind word to me personally. It breaks my heart but it is not healthy to engage in an abusive relationship.”
Bindi then alleged that her mother Terri Irwin continues to write letters and send gifts to Bob, only to be ignored as well. Bindi also claimed that her family has been supporting Bob financially since 1992 and is still sending him weekly payments. Despite his alleged abuse, Bindi maintains that she still wants to make sure he is taken care of.
“We built him a house on a beautiful property and will always do our best to ensure his well-being,” she said.
This comes after Bindi took to social media over the weekend to honor the three fathers in her life.
“Appreciation post for the three most incredible fathers in my life,” she wrote on Facebook. “My dad, my husband and my father-in-law. My dad taught me the importance of strength when standing up for what I believe in and to have empathy for all living beings.”
“My husband amazes me every day with his kind and steadfast heart, his love for our daughter is infinite,” Bindi added. “My father-in-law works tirelessly for his family and is always there with a word of encouragement. These extraordinary men inspire me and I love them so very much.”
