Prince William and Kate Middleton have been married ever since 2011, but their marriage is still something that they actively “work hard” at, according to a friend of theirs.
“Many couples take each other for granted after 10 years,” but with “communication” and “small, simple things,” the royal lovebirds have kept their marriage strong, the friend told Closer Weekly.
“We both have a fun time together,” William, 38, recently said. “We both have a very good sense of humor about things, [and] we’re down-to-earth.”
The friend said that to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary on April 29, William gave Kate a “stunning diamond necklace and ring.” They also reportedly shared an intimate dinner cooked at their home by one of their favorite chefs after their three young children went to bed.
The friend went on to say that the romantic evening felt like a luxury for them, but “they are working harder on creating quality time together and switching off at the end of the day.” In fact, William and Kate are reportedly hoping to get away on a weekend trip without their children at some point this summer.
“They work hard at their marriage,” the friend explained.
Over the past ten years, Kate has reportedly grown into her roles as being both a wife and mother and a working member of the royal family.
“She has let go of the insecurities she had when she was younger. She’s become confident in her decision-making, and she’s learned to look at the big picture and not let little things bother her,” said the couple’s friend.
According to this insider, William’s changes have been more subtle, but also very positive.
“He’s always been a confident man,” the friend noted. “But being a husband and father has enhanced the warmer, nurturing side of his personality.”
Even William himself has noticed the changes.
“I never used to get too wound up or worried about things,” he once said. “[Now] I’m a lot more emotional than I used to be.”
William and Kate’s bond has only grown stronger since they became parents to their three children, Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3.
“George, Charlotte and Louis bring them so much joy,” their friend said. “Spending time with them helps the couple switch off from their duties.”
While the past year has presented more challenges to William and Kate, they have taken things in stride. Their friend concluded that this is because Kate’s calm persona blends well with William’s levelheaded mindset.
“They take things in stride and work as a team,” the friend said. “They’re both intelligent, academically and emotionally. One day, William and Kate will make a superb king and queen.”
