It’s been one month since Prince Philip, who was Queen Elizabeth’s husband of 73 years, passed away at the age of 99. Now, his grandson Prince William is speaking out along with his wife Kate Middleton to say that their three young children dearly miss their great-grandfather.

In a response to a letter of condolences sent to their family, William and Kate said that their three children Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3, miss their “much loved grandfather and great-grandfather.”

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thank you for your kind words following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh,” the letter read. “Their Royal Highnesses have been incredibly moved by the many thoughtful messages they have received in recent weeks.”

“They will all miss their much loved grandfather and great-grandfather, but your message has provided great comfort at this difficult time,” the letter added.

This comes after a source spoke out to reveal how William and Kate told their three children about Philip’s death.

“William told George, Charlotte and Louis that Prince Philip has ‘gone to heaven’ and ‘is an angel now,’” a royal insider told Us Weekly. “They’re still so young so he and Kate wanted to let them down gently.”

The source went on to say that the three children have struggled to handle the news that Philip has died.

“Naturally, the children are very upset, particularly George and Charlotte,” the insider added. “Louis is still very young and had only met Prince Philip a couple of times.”

Even so, the three kids have been actively trying to help their parents find ways to remember Philip in the wake of his passing.

“George, Charlotte and Louis helped William choose a photograph of Prince Philip to hang in their home in memory of him,” the source explained.

Days after Philip died, William released a never-before-seen photo of Philip with his oldest son George.

“I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!” William said in a statement.
