Fans were stunned last summer when Tom Bergeron was abruptly fired from “Dancing With The Stars,” which he had hosted since it premiered way back in 2005, and replaced by supermodel Tyra Banks.
Those who were upset by this move will be unhappy to see that ABC announced on Tuesday that not only have they picked up “Dancing With The Stars” for another season, but Banks will be returning as host and executive producer. Entertainment Tonight reported that Banks will be returning along with Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli as judges.
After filming of the last season wrapped in the fall, Banks reflected on it by saying, “We broke a lot of records when it comes to the ratings for this show.”
“Yes, there was change, but the change meant hell of a lot of big ratings,” she explained. “In the end, this is a business and that’s what matters, making sure that people are coming and that new people are coming.”
At the time, however, Banks was not sure if she would be coming back for another season.
“I don’t know. We shall see! I don’t know,” she said coyly. “I had a good time. We’ll see.”
Fans were saddened back in December when Bergeron made it clear he would never go back to “Dancing With The Stars.”
“When people say, ‘I’m not gonna watch until you’re back,’ I say, ‘Well, there’s really no ‘until’ here,'” Bergeron explained, according to Entertainment Tonight. “This train has left the station.”
“I appreciate the sentiment,” he added. “[But] I don’t hold it against anybody if they [watch].”
Bergeron went on to talk about his favorite aspects of hosting “Dancing With The Stars” for 28 seasons, saying it was all about “the friendships I have with people who were on camera and behind the camera.”
“I used to throw midseason parties for cast and staff. It helped create a sense of solidarity,” he recalled. “And then we’d try to sober up the next day.”
While reflecting on his plans for the future, the seasoned television host admitted that he’s enjoying a rare bit of downtime right now.
“I’ve hosted every format imaginable. There’s no real fire in my gut to do it again,” Bergeron said. “Having said that, I’m always open to surprises.”
