The newest member of the British royal family and the tenth great grandchild of Queen Elizabeth just came into the world in the most unusual of ways.
The U.K. Mirror reported that the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday on the bathroom floor of her home. This was confirmed by her husband, rugby player Mike Tindall, who revealed all about the birth on his podcast.
After saying that the weekend was “crazy,” Mike explained that they did not have time to make it to the hospital after Zara went into labor.
“Saturday, loved all the rugby…I was actually genuinely angry after the England game,” he said. “And then Sunday got even better because a little baby boy arrived at my house.”
“So, it was run into the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, get a mat on the floor, towels down, ‘brace-brace-brace,'” Mike said of the birth, according to People Magazine. “Fortunately, the midwife, who was going to meet us at the hospital, wasn’t that far away. So she drove up, got there just as we’d assumed the pos-ish [as he called the position]. And then the second midwife arrived just after the head had arrived.”
Mike then said that Zara, 39, “was a warrior as always. She was back up. We went for a walk [on Monday] morning with him. All good.” The couple were already parents to two daughters, and now that they have a son, Mike feels their family is complete.
“I’ve got a boy, I’m out of here,” he said.
The couple named their son Lucas Philip, with the middle name being in honor of Zara’s grandfather, Prince Philip. Buckingham Palace has addressed the birth in a statement, saying, “The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news and look forward to meeting their 10th Great Grandchild when circumstances allow.”
Zara is the daughter of Princess Anne, the second child of the Queen. She and Mike met back in 2003 at England’s Rugby World Cup-winning campaign in Australia, and they have been married since 2011. We would like to congratulate them on the birth of their son, and we wish all the best for him in life!
