Kelly Clarkson became a household name when she won the first season of “American Idol” back in 2002. On this week’s episode of “The Voice,” Clarkson’s fellow coach Blake Shelton used this against her as he fought with her over a contestant.

After getting off to what she described as a “rough start” in Tuesday’s blind auditions, Clarkson got a little desperate, as she brought up her “American Idol” experience not once but twice!

“I’ve obviously navigated a singing competition myself before, so I do think there is some strategy to it,” Clarkson told one contestant, according to Yahoo News. She later urged another to join Team Kelly and “pick someone that won a vocal competition!”

Even host Carson Daly got in on the action, defending Clarkson by saying to Shelton, “She’s won a show just like this! Arguably she knows more about this than any of you!”

Clarkson, however, was not having any of it.

“That show was canceled!” he fired back.

BOOM!

While Fox did indeed cancel “American Idol” in 2016, it was only off the air for two years, as ABC picked it up in 2018. Had Clarkson really wanted to get revenge on Shelton, she could have brought up his judging gig on the country music singing competition “Nashville Star,” which was cancelled many years ago.

Of course, Shelton then could have hit back by bringing up the short-lived 2012 show “Duets,” which was judged by both Clarkson and John Legend and was a disaster in the ratings department.

Clarkson and Shelton regularly playfully go at it on “The Voice” as they try to convince contestants to join their teams. Things got heated on last week’s episode when Shelton claimed that Clarkson “doesn’t really have time for this,” since she’s also juggling her daily daytime talk show “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” He also claimed that she’s “completely gone Hollywood now” and “forgot her roots.”

Shelton quickly learned the hard way that messing with Clarkson was a mistake.

“I have time to do it all and nail it while doing it,” Clarkson fired back, adding that it is “ironic” that Shelton was “trying to serve us up on a Hollywood platter” considering he’s “always the one on covers of magazines and he’s dating Gwen Stefani.”
