On Monday, Prince Philip, 99, was transferred to another hospital after being hospitalized for nearly two weeks for reasons that have not completely been published. Now, his daughter-in-law Camilla has spoken out to give an update about his condition that sounds ominous to some royal fans.
ITV News reported that while Camilla said that Philip is “slightly improving,” she added that “he hurts at moments.”
“We keep our fingers crossed,” the wife of Prince Charles continued.

Philip, who has been married to Queen Elizabeth for 73 years, was initially admitted to the private King Edward VII’s Hospital on February 16, with the palace saying it was only a precautionary measure after he started feeling unwell. He has been hospitalized ever since, and on Monday, he was transferred to St Bartholomew’s Hospital after coming down with an infection.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was today transferred from King Edward VII’s Hospital to St Bartholomew’s Hospital where doctors will continue to treat him for an infection, as well as undertake testing and observation for a preexisting heart condition,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement, according to Closer Weekly. “The duke remains comfortable and is responding to treatment but is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.”
The royal family has not revealed what specifically Philip was hospitalized for, but they have said that it’s not related to COVID-19.
“Certainly he will be monitored extensively, with some of the best specialists in the country at Barts heart centre,” said BBC health correspondent Hugh Pym. “But I think, probably, it’s more than just monitoring. I think he has gone to this specialist centre because of the possibility – no more than that – that the doctors feel there may be a need for an intervention or procedure to be carried out.”
After Philip was first hospitalized, royal biographer Penny Junor said jokingly that doctors and nurses at the hospital “would not want” Philip on their shift since he gets “irritated” by people fussing over him.
“I think he (Prince Philip) can be quite blunt and I think if he felt people were fussing over him he could be quite outspoken about that,” Junor said. “This is a man who doesn’t want any fuss made of his 100th birthday, so the fact he’s in hospital and getting some fuss made of him will really irritate him.”
