Earlier today, we reported that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had announced that they are expecting their second child. Now, Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth has broken her silence to address the news.
“Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and entire family [are] ‘delighted’ and wish them well,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told Town And Country Magazine. It has been confirmed that the royal family was told about Meghan’s pregnancy before the announcement was made.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said.
This comes days after it was announced that Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie had given birth to her first child with husband Jack Brooksbank.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present,” the royal family said in a statement.
It’s been one year since Harry and Meghan shocked the world by stepping down as senior members of the British royal family and moving across the world to California. Last summer, Meghan revealed in an op-ed for The New York Times that she had tragically suffered a miscarriage last summer.
“It was a July morning that began as ordinarily as any other day: Make breakfast. Feed the dogs. Take vitamins. Find that missing sock. Pick up the rogue crayon that rolled under the table. Throw my hair in a ponytail before getting my son from his crib,” she wrote. “After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right. I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”
“Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand. I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears,” Meghan added. “Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over. I tried to imagine how we’d heal.”
