The legendary talk show host Larry King is reportedly struggling to pick up the pieces of his life after a year full of trauma that included two of his children passing away.

After two of King’s children died over the summer, things took a turn for the worse again for him last month, when he spent his 87th birthday in the hospital to get treatment for a blood flow issue.

“John Kennedy said life isn’t fair, which is so true,” King told Closer Weekly. “A lot of life is luck. I have no control over it.”

While 2020 has been hard for all of us, it has been particularly hard for King. His oldest son Andy King died unexpectedly back in July of a heart attack at the age of 65. Weeks later, King’s daughter Chaia died of lung cancer at the age of 51.

“Losing them feels so out of order. No parent should have to bury a child,” King explained. “Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed.”

Making matters worse is the fact that the eight time-married talk show host has been facing all these hardships alone, as he filed for divorce from Shawn Southwick King, his wife of 22 years and the mother of his youngest two sons, last year.

“I thought a lot about what I wanted the rest of my life to be,” King confessed about his decision to end the marriage. “There is nothing worse than arguing … I wanted to be happy.”

King filed for divorce four months after he suffered a stroke, blaming their 46 year age difference for the marriage failing.

“It became an issue,” he admitted. “We overcame a lot but eventually it became a ships passing in the night situation.”

Through all of his struggles, King continues to work, hosting “PoliticKING With Larry King,” a weekly talk show on Hulu.

He doesn’t want to stop. The biggest challenge for him is listening to the doctors who want him to de-stress by working less and resting more,” an insider said.

King himself said he has no interest in giving up working because it brings him joy.

“I’ve been given the gift of curiosity,” he said. “And I’ve made that curiosity into a professional career.”

Despite all his heartbreaks this year, King said he still sees himself as blessed.

“The truth is that every day of my life, good or bad, I pinch myself,” he confessed. “I lived through so many things, but I keep bouncing back. I have so much to live for.”
