Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently revealed that they will be spending this Christmas in their new home in Montecito, California rather than travel back to the United Kingdom for the holiday given how difficult international travel has become amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Now, a longtime royal biographer is speaking out to reveal that Queen Elizabeth, 94, is “very sad” that her grandson and his wife won’t be seeing her for the holidays.

Royal biographer Penny Junor explained to the Daily Express that the Queen has a “soft spot” in her heart for Harry and his family.

“I am sure the Queen will be very sad not to see Harry and Megan and her youngest great-grandchild,” Junor said. “I think she has a very soft spot for Harry.”

She went on to add that Harry would miss the Queen, “whom he adores,” and the other members of the royal family as well.

“Harry gets on very well with his cousins and I guess he will miss seeing them and, of course, he will miss spending time with his grandparents whom he adores,” Junor continued.

The royal expert went on to say that seeing family won’t be the only thing Harry misses about not going back to the United Kingdom this year. Junor added that he would also miss the many royal traditions Harry and his family typically partake in over the Christmas holiday.

“He will miss the charity football match that he and William instigated several years ago, between the home team – them and the estate workers – and the locals,” she said.

“I imagine that they will follow whatever traditions Megan grew up with, but I am sure they will make a Zoom call to the Royal Family at some point on Christmas Day,” Junor added.

This comes after a source told Entertainment Tonight that it is “fully anticipated that [Meghan and Harry] be at home in California and not be in the U.K. for Christmas.”

Another source said that despite reports claiming that Harry would be visiting the U.K. before the end of 2020, the couple are “not returning anytime soon.”

“Things can obviously change, if there’s a concern about family health, but they are not hopping over the pond anytime imminently,” the source said, adding that the royals are sticking to strict “social isolation guidelines” amid the coronavirus pandemic.
