Queen Elizabeth is in mourning this week after the death of her beloved dog, Vulcan.
Multiple royal experts have confirmed that Vulcan, a dachshund-corgi mix, has passed away.
“The Queen is mourning the loss of one of her last two remaining dogs just weeks before Christmas. Loyal companion Vulcan, a dachshund-corgi cross, died a few weeks ago at Windsor,” tweeted royal expert Rebecca English.

Vulcan’s death has left the 94 year-old Queen with just one living dog, Candy, who is also a dachshund-corgi mix. The Queen has loved dogs ever since she was given her first corgi, Susan, on her 18th birthday.
Entertainment Tonight reported that back in 2016, the Queen celebrated her 90th birthday by posing with her corgis and dorgis Vulcan, Candy, Holly and Willow in a photos taken by the photographer Annie Leibovitz.
“The most moving, important thing about this shoot is that these were all her ideas,” Leibovitz said at the time. “She wanted to be photographed with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh; her daughter, Anne, the Princess Royal; and her corgis.”

Page Six reported that the Queen is so devoted to her dogs that she assigned them their own footmen, and they even have their own à la carte menus.
“I didn’t expect to be cooking for the Queen’s dogs, when I started working at Buckingham Palace. I thought I was going to be cooking for kings, queens and presidents. I did eventually, but one of the first jobs I had was cooking for the corgis – the Royal Corgis – making fresh food every day. [The corgis had] their own menu,” said Darren McGrady, who was a chef at Buckingham Palace for fifteen years.
Vulcan’s death comes days after the Queen’s grandson Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton announced that their dog Lupo had died.
“Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away,” the couple said on their Instagram page. “He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. – W & C.”
