Meghan Markle and former First Lady Michelle Obama are now part of the same high-profile public speaking agency. It has just been revealed that after Meghan married Prince Harry, she went right to Michelle for advice, and the two have since become confidantes.
The U.K. Express reported that last year, Michelle revealed what she thought of Meghan by posting a photo of her from when she attended a reception for Young People at the Residence of the British High Commissioner in Cape Town.
“Thank you to my friend, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex, a thoughtful leader who is breaking the mould and making our world better for it… she is an inspiration to so many,” Michelle captioned the photo. “Whether meeting with our leaders or helping girls around the world seek the education they deserve, she is an inspiration to so many.”
Michelle also reportedly told Meghan that “there is no prescribed path” when giving her advice on what to do with her guest-edited Vogue magazine last year. This may have inspired Meghan to follow her instincts and leave the royal family with Harry earlier this year.
However, Meghan did not always follow the advice that Michelle gave her.
“Like me, Meghan probably never dreamt she’d have a life like this and the pressure you feel can sometimes feel like a lot,” Michelle said back in 2018. “So my biggest advice would be to take some time and don’t be in a hurry to do anything.”
“I spent the first few months in the White House mainly worrying about my daughters, making sure they were off to a good start at school and making new friends before I launched into any more ambitious work,” she added. “I think it’s okay — it’s good, even — to do that.”
In contrast to this, Meghan was keen to dive into her work as a royal, saying that same year that she wanted to “hit the ground running.” She was later praised by courtiers for her “strong work ethic” during her 2019 trip to Morocco with Harry, and she continued working even when she was seven months pregnant with her son Archie.
