Hollywood is in mourning after the death of Kelly Preston, an actress best known for starring in movies like Twins and Jerry Maguire, who was also married to John Travolta for nearly 29 years. She was 57 years-old.
Fox News reported that Preston’s death was confirmed by Travolta, who said that she had been secretly battling breast cancer for two years.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” Travolta wrote on Instagram on Sunday evening. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many. ”
“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered,” he added. “I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT.”
Born in Hawaii in 1962, Preston studied acting at the University of Southern California before getting her big break in the romantic comedy movie Mischief. A successful career in Hollywood followed, with Preston starring in major motion pictures while also earning frequent television guest starring roles in shows like “Medium,” “CSI: Cyber” and “Joey.”
Preston and Travolta met in 1988 while filming the movie The Experts, and they married three years later in a midnight ceremony in Paris, France. Preston’s final movie role was as Victoria Gotti in the 2018 movie Gotti, which also starred her husband as John Got.
Preston posted on Instagram for the last time on Father’s Day, when she posted a photo of herself with her family along with the caption, “Happy Father’s Day to the best one I know, we love you.”
Preston is survived by Travolta, 66, their daughter Ella, 20, and 9-year-old son Benjamin. She was predeceased by their son Jett, who died back in 2009 at the age of 16.
