Police officers have to be ready for almost anything when they show up for work every day, as they often see some unusual things while they’re on patrol. Recently, Gainesville police officers Kristen Miller and Jessica Van were called to a scene where they saw something that they will never forget.
When Miller and Van were called to the home of 92 year-old Cynthia Hill, they never expected to see something that would leave both seasoned officers in tears.
“Earlier today Officer Kristen Miller responded to a welfare check on a 92 year old female, her family was worried for her because her electricity and water had been out due to unforeseen circumstances,” the Gainesville Police Department’s Facebook page stated. “Officer Miller arrived on scene and found that all the food in the refrigerator had spoiled and she was out of water.”

Miller and Van were heartbroken by what they saw, as nobody should have to live that way, especially not a 92 year-old woman! Both cops immediately knew they had to go above and beyond and help the elderly woman with their own money.
“Officer Miller found out that she had no means of transportation and couldn’t make it to the store. Officer Miller and Corporal Jessica Van immediately took action, Cpl Van stayed with the female while Officer Miller went to the store and purchased some consumable items and water with her personal money,” the Facebook page continued.
Miller bought the woman non-perishable groceries as well as tons of water and gatorade to keep her hydrated. She even made sure to buy the woman cookies!

Gainesville Police Department has now pledged to get Hill’s utilities taken care of, as their main priority is looking out for members of the community in need.
“The elderly female and her family were very grateful for Officer Millers selfless act and were glad to have her respond the way she did,” the department said. “This is what 90% of police work is about. We are PROUD to SERVE.”
We applaud these officers for helping this elderly woman and the compassion they showed! SHARE this story so your friends and family can see it as well!
