It has just been announced that Miss America 2020 Camille Schrier will be making history as the first Miss America winner to ever serve for two years.

Fox News reported that the Miss America organization previously announced that a pageant would not be held in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, it has been revealed that Schrier, 24, will be given the unprecedented opportunity to reign as Miss America for a second year.

Fans will likely remember Schrier as the young Virginia scientist who already made history once as the first Miss America contestant to ever carry out an on-stage experiment during the talent portion of the show. Schrier told People in a new interview that she is excited that she will have the chance to make history for a second time by reigning for another year.

“I realized now that I’m probably going to be a ‘Jeopardy’ question,” she joked. “It’s definitely incredible. As someone who is a nontraditional competitor in the Miss America organization … it’s kind of on-brand for me to do it this way.”

Schier, a student at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy, said that during her five month reign so far, she has been promoting drug safety and “championing STEM (Science, Education, Technology and Math) education.”

Schier added that her focus has been thinking outside the box when it comes to what she can do with her role.

“I’m just kind of embracing that I don’t really do anything the regular way, and I think that that’s important for young people to see, especially because sometimes we feel like we have to be like everybody else,” she said. “Just do your own thing, create your own path.”

Schier also talked about the unique situation she is in as a Miss America serving during a global pandemic.

“This isn’t a situation that Miss America has ever been faced with,” she explained. “This is a 100-year-old organization, and I’m really the first person who’s been faced with this. How can I adapt? How can I figure out how to bring the work that I was doing on the ground, online?”

If anyone could handle a two year-reign as Miss America, it seems that this young woman can!
