A New Jersey man whose father was killed in the September 11 terrorist attacks is doing something truly incredible to help healthcare workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.

Fox News reported that New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy just took to social media to praise the efforts of George Zakhary, who has launched a campaign to buy breakfast for medical workers who are putting their own health at risk to fight against COVID-19.

“George Zakhary lost his father on 9/11 and his sister is a health care worker,” Murphy wrote on Twitter. “He’s been running the Breakfast for our Heroes campaign to provide breakfast for health care workers across the state. He’s already hit 24 hospitals. #NJThanksYou!”

Zakhary launched his effort on GoFundMe last month in an attempt to help out healthcare workers in need. He is currently trying to help those working at the Clara Mass Medical Center and Barnabas Health in Livingston.

“Let’s give back to those that are risking their lives for us!” he wrote on the webpage. “I will be bringing them breakfast from the best coffee spot in the area, G.O.A.T. Coffee house. (Bagels, coffee, shakes, smoothies, etc.) Let’s show our Health Heroes how much we appreciate them. Anything helps! Thank you in advance!”

Zakhary’s campaign has raised over $8,000 so far with a goal of $15,000. An update posted earlier this month stated that his efforts have helped serve 24 hospitals, three radiology centers, one urgent care center, and one supermarket.

We are living in an unprecedented time of fear and uncertainty, so it’s incredibly touching to see people like Zakhary stepping up to do their parts to help those who are fighting this virus on the frontlines. Please join us in saying a prayer for all the American healthcare workers who are going above and beyond to help protect the rest of us!
