NFL legend Tom Brady made the switch from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year right before the coronavirus pandemic hit, and given everything that is happening right now, it’s safe to say he’s not getting the best first impression of his new city in Florida. That’s why Tampa’s Mayor Jane Castor decided to write Brady a lighthearted letter of apology, which has since quickly gone viral!

“Tom, my apologies for the miscommunication when you arrived — not the best first impression,” the mayor began in a letter posted to social media on Saturday. “But given my law enforcement background, I couldn’t help but have someone investigate the sighting of a G.O.A.T running wild in one of our beautiful city parks.”

Castor went on to thank Brady “for being a good sport” and to thank both him and his wife Giselle Bundchen for recently donating 750,000 meals to Feeding Tampa Bay. She also addressed her letter to Rob Gronkowski, who left the Patriots for the Buccaneers just like Brady did.

With so many “wonderful activities,” Castor wrote, listing all the things to do in the area, “you must be ready to pARRGHty…but not too hard (I’m talking to you Gronk).” She was seemingly referring to Gronkowski’s pension for “going hard” both on and off the field.

Since coronavirus has made meeting in person impossible, Castor said that her welcome to the two men would have to be a virtual one for now, adding that a “proper Tampa welcome will have to wait for a while.” Yahoo News reported that Tampa is preparing to host the Super Bowl next year, and the city is hoping that Brady and Gronkowski will help lead the Buccaneers to becoming the first city to win the Super Bowl while hosting it on their own turf.

This letter comes days after Brady was thrown out of a Tampa park when he was caught working out there by city officials. The four-time Super Bowl MVP was told to leave the park because it was closed due to COVID-19.
