No one likes to think about death, but it’s an inevitable part of life. What happens after are death, however, is up to debate and there are many options available to take care of one’s remains. From burial to cremation; we have options, but those options may be changing.

Throughout history, there have been different methods for taking care of the body of the deceased. In ancient times bodies were mummified with their organs left in tact. Eventually, as societies became more religious, people began practicing burial and then cremation.

Over the past century people have gotten more and more creative with their final wishes. We’ve seen people buried in trees, sprinkled in various places, sent into outer space, preserved through freezing, and even turned into diamonds and other types of jewelry.

Now there’s yet another option, that some people in the industry think is the best option yet. While the new option isn’t legal everywhere yet, it is a growing movement that more and more people feel is a much better form of cremation that truly honors the dead.

Some people feel that cremation is a cruel process where cross contamination of human remains is inevitable. The process of cremation is considered by some to be bad for nature because it puts off plenty of environmental pollutants and carbon dioxide.

The new method is similar to cremation except it uses water to complete the process. The Resomator dissolves bodies through a process known as alkaline hydrolysis. Many believe it is more ethical and cleaner than cremation. This method uses a water and alkali based method at high temperatures and pressures to chemically reduce the body to white ash.

After drying and processing of the white bones, the pure white, sterile ashes are then returned to relatives just like with flame cremation. While some people may not like the idea of being ‘dissolved’, the cost alone may change your mind.

The process of embalming or cremating one’s remains can be extremely expensive; several thousands of dollars. The process to have someone dissolved is only $45, which could save thousands of dollars in funeral costs. The alkaline hydrolysis process is currently legal in some U.S. States and Canadian Provinces, and in the U.K.
