In a bizarre and unexpected turn of events, a Mississippi woman named Penny Ivey Thompson recently found herself in a situation that can only be described as the ultimate customer service nightmare.

After taking her beloved Dodge truck, affectionately named “Big Bertha,” to the Mac Haik dealership in Flowood for a routine service, Penny was shocked to discover that an employee of the dealership was driving her truck on the highway—without her permission.

The ordeal began innocuously enough when Penny dropped off Big Bertha at the dealership, expecting a standard service appointment.

However, within minutes, she was horrified to spot her truck being driven down Lakeland Drive, tailgating another vehicle.

In disbelief, Penny watched as her prized possession was driven recklessly, putting both her vehicle and others on the road at risk.

Determined to get to the bottom of the situation and take back control, Penny quickly devised a plan.

She snapped a photo of her truck on the highway and shared it on Facebook, venting her frustration.

“That moment you see a Mac Haik employee test driving your Dodge down Lakeland Dr TAILGATING another vehicle,” she captioned the photo. “I followed him to see if my truck would make it back in one piece because I know it doesn’t stop on a dime and at this point just wanted him out of it.”

Penny’s concern for her truck’s safety and the disregard for her property drove her to take drastic action.

She trailed her truck as it made its way to a Lowe’s parking lot, about two miles from the dealership.

As she watched the employee park the truck and head into the store, Penny took matters into her own hands. She called the dealership to inquire about the whereabouts of her vehicle, only to be met with vague responses. Then, armed with her spare key, Penny made a bold move: she “stole” her own truck back.

Recalling the incident on Facebook, Penny wrote, “Ya know…every now and then I get crazy. I will own that.

I found my spare key out of my purse and I steal MY OWN DODGE from Lowe’s parking lot. Ya see, I’m a Home Depot kinda girl anyway. He comes ol’ dummy swinging his shopping bag and I never checked up. He never looked up. He just stopped and stood in the parking lot. I left him in the parking lot stranded.”

Penny’s decisive action didn’t end there. She drove Big Bertha straight back to the dealership, where stunned employees quickly offered to service her truck for free and pleaded with her not to share the story on social media.

But Penny, understandably outraged by the entire ordeal, refused to keep quiet. Her story has since gone viral, serving as a warning to businesses about the consequences of mishandling customer property.

In her final Facebook post about the incident, Penny summed up her feelings with a simple but powerful statement: “Do not met (mess) with my family, my animals, my money, or my truck. Nobody drives Big Bertha like that. Nobody.”

Penny’s quick thinking and assertive actions not only secured the safe return of her truck but also sent a clear message to the dealership and anyone else who might think of crossing her: don’t mess with Penny and her Big Bertha.
