Adrian Reeman lives with his wife Annette in a normal apartment building that was build in the 1960s in Southhampton. The apartment that the Reemans live in, however, is anything but ordinary, as they have turned it into something truly extraordinary!

Adrian, a 67-year-old chef in the Merchant Navy, has spent the past thirty years remodeling his two bedroom apartment into a replica of the Palace of Versailles, which was built just outside Paris for King Louis XV hundreds of years ago. The palace is known for it’s Baroque art style that exemplifies the architectural concept of “creation by division.” Thanks to Adrian’s hard work, his home now shows off this style as well!

“I’ve got my own palace— just on a much smaller scale,” Adrian said, as he has transformed the walls, ceilings, fire place, cupboards, and bathroom to show off this style.

Though Adrian has no decorating experience, he decided to start this project when he was between jobs. He worked piece-by-piece until he had totally transformed the entirety of his apartment.

“Once I started I knew that I couldn’t stop until I finished— at some points I actually wished I hadn’t started,” he said.

Adrian managed to cut costs by getting most of his materials from second-hand shops and charities. Miraculously, he claims the entire project has cost him just a few hundred pounds.

“I picked up bits and pieces from charity shops and immediately I could visualize where it was going to go,” he said. “But I wanted a really high level of detail so I had to buy some special materials to give me the right look.”

Currently, Adrian is working on redesigning the bathroom’s toilet.

“I’m currently working to make the toilet look like it’s made of marble,” he explained. “It’s only a small lavatory, and you can barely turn around in it, but that doesn’t mean you cannot make it look grand.”

Should Adrian and Annette decide to move at some point, the entire apartment will need to be converted back to the way it was.

“But who would want that?” Adrian exclaimed. “It had horrible copper pebble wallpaper!”
