Meagan Nash believes that her son is just as cute and lovable as any other 18-month old toddler. What separates her son Asher from many other babies his age is that he has Down’s Syndrome, but she was determined to show that he has worth as much as any other child.
Nash says she submitted Asher’s pictures to several modeling agencies, but repeatedly never received calls back offering Asher a job. She finally reached out to one agency and was shocked at their reply.
The agency told Nash that because Asher has Down’s Syndrome they didn’t even submit his photos to any clothing or baby companies because none of them were specifically seeking children with special needs. This news shocked Nash.

The frustrated mom took to Facebook where she posted Asher’s photos to Change the Face of Beauty page. The response she got was overwhelming support. The page reached out to OshKosh B’Gosh and several other companies. “Hey OshKosh B’Gosh, what do you say? Won’t you help us in #changingthefaceofbeauty?”
Nash says her goal wasn’t to cause a stir, but to bring two things to light. She says that children with special needs should be included just like other children, and the second is acceptance. She says acceptance teaches the children that they are important and loved just like everyone else, regardless of disability.
It wasn’t long after the post went viral that Nash was contacted by a spokesperson from OshKosh B’Gosh who asked to speak to the family face to face. After meeting with the family, a spokesperson from the company said they enjoyed meeting the family, spending time with Asher, and hearing their perspective on inclusiveness and acceptance in advertising.

Asher was offered a place in a prominent campaign and Nash says she hopes that they chose Asher not because of the exposure he got on social media, but because they are really trying to break down barriers.
She says she feels very accomplished to have spread his story and feels like she got done what she set out to do. Asher will be featured in advertising campaigns for OshKosh B’Gosh and Babies R Us.
