From the time that they got married, Roy and Bernita Rogers knew that they wanted to be parents. Unfortunately, like millions of other Americans, the couple struggled with fertility. After three failed pregnancies, Roy and Bernita were ready to give up, but that’s why a black cat walked into their lives and changed everything for them.

The couple rescued a black kitten named Midnight after he wandered into their yard, and for years, the cat was their only “child.” Years later, Bernita finally became pregnant again and gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Stacy. They had no idea at the time that a few months later, Midnight would save Stacy’s life.

All seemed to be going well for Stacy at first, as she was a healthy baby who just loved cuddling with Midnight. Sadly, that all changed when Stacy suddenly fell ill, and her health started to rapidly decline. Doctors told Bernita that she just had a common cold, but the mother feared that something else was going on entirely.

One night, Roy and Benita were sleeping Midnight came up to their bed and starting meowing at them. They didn’t think much of it at first, but then the meowing became more frantic.

“He was pretty persistent. He obviously wanted me to do something but I wasn’t interested,” Bernita recalled, explaining that she could not understand what her cat wanted. Realizing that they didn’t understand him, Midnight bolted to Stacy’s room and started meowing on her baby monitor. That sent her parents running for their baby’s room as well, and they’ll never forget what they found when they got there.
