An all-girls choir from Dublin recently took the stage to audition for Ireland’s Got Talent and proceeded to completely blow the judges away.

The girls revealed that they are called the Deaftones, and they are a mix of deaf girls, deaf and mute, and hearing girls, from ages 13 to 39. Two hearing girls sing their songs with their voices while the rest use sign language to sing the lyrics.

The choir was started in 2010 by Shirley, who teaches at the Holy Family School. She explained to the judges that some of the choir members can sing and hear the music, some can hear the music, and some cannot hear the music at all. They eventually decided to bring in hearing girls so that they could show that the deaf and hearing communities can come together as one, and that’s how Ciera became part of the group.

Ciera is the lead singer of the Deaftones, and she is the sister of one of the deaf members of the group. Ciera’s parents, sisters, and brother are all deaf, and it was initially hard for her to live a normal life with her friends because of this. It was only when she joined the choir that she realized the positive impact it had on young girls.

For the audition, the Deaftones decided to sing the Ed Sheeran song “Photograph.”

Host Lucy Kennedy and judge Jason Byrne were left in tears by the performance, as were many members of the audience. Needless to say, the judges sent them right through to the next round!
