The devastated husband of the 79 year-old Los Angeles Dodgers fan who was killed after she was struck in the face by a foul ball over the summer has just spoken out for the first time.

Erwin and Linda Goldbloom were attending a Dodgers game against the San Diego Padres on August 25, 2018 in celebration of their 59th wedding anniversary when she was struck by the ball. He remembered that the ball zoomed in so quickly that they did not have a chance to protect Linda from it.

“The first batter fouled a ball … that came and hit her right in the cheek. [It] came so quick that we didn’t have time to react. Nobody did in our area,” Erwin said.

The ball went over the protective netting of the Dodgers’ stadium before hitting Linda.

“The last thing I remember asking her was, ‘Are you OK?’ when the ball hit her and she said, ‘No,'” he said. “If they would’ve raised the vertical net, I think the ball would not have hit us.”

Linda, a mother of three and a grandmother of seven, had been an avid Dodgers fan all her life.

“Ushers came down and asked if she was all right, and she said no, then EMT came and rushed her to the hospital – she threw up in the ambulance,” said Jana Brody, the couple’s daughter.

Erwin is now hoping that the MLB will change their security measures so that this won’t happen to any other fan.

“They should make more of an effort – MLB not just Dodgers. The past is the past. We hope that MLB will make steps to make it a little safer for other people,” he said, adding that, “they could raise the vertical netting that protects game attendees.”

“I’d love to see the netting extended vertically, and we know it doesn’t block the view,” added Jana. “Raise it a little higher, what’s the hurt in that?”

The Dodgers did not comment about Linda’s death back in August, and waited five months to release any statement about it.

“Mr. and Mrs. Goldbloom were great Dodgers fans who regularly attended games. We were deeply saddened by this tragic accident and the passing of Mrs. Goldbloom,” the team said. “The matter has been resolved between the Dodgers and the Goldbloom family. We cannot comment further on this matter.”

Please keep the Goldbloom family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to deal with this tragedy.
