The midwest has been hit with record low temperatures this winter, and Americans there are struggling to contend with cold weather. While some have worried about the elderly in these conditions, 82 year-old grandmother Marlene Downing of Muskegon, Michigan let everyone know that she’s handling the cold winter just fine on her own!

Marlene has become a viral sensation after she was caught on camera handling a snowblower like a pro in her driveway.

Nick LaFave, a reporter for WZZM-TV, snapped the photo, and it went viral as soon as he posted it online.

“This is Marlene in Muskegon,” he captioned the image. “At 82 years old, she still fires up the snowblower and gets to work. Says she loves being out there… and helps out the neighbors, too! She also says that she grew up in North Dakota and calls herself a ‘tough, old broad!’ That’s awesome, Marlene! Now go put your hat on! You’ll catch cold!”

Marlene only just retired last year, and with her newfound free time, she enjoys staying active outdoors, even in freezing temperatures!

Marlene’s children and grandchildren aren’t thrilled about her being out in the cold, but they already know that she’s an independent woman who can’t be told what to do.

“They think I’m crazy,” she told reporters with a laugh, explaining that she likes her snowblower because it reminds her of her Harley Davidson motorcycle. Marlene has put over 135,000 miles on her bike, which she loves to travel around on with her little dog.

We applaud Marlene for showing the world that age is just a number and that you are never too old to live life to the fullest! What an inspiration she is for both the young and old!
