A bus driver from Arkansas is being praised for keeping a bucket of books on her bus for kids to read as she drives them along their route.

Julie Callison is a special education teacher and bus driver in the Drew Central School District who has become a viral sensation after the Arkansas Department of Education posted about what she is doing on Facebook.

“Special Education teacher Julie Callison of the Drew Central School District decided to create a culture of reading on her daily bus route,” they wrote.

They posted a photo of the bucket of books along with another image of children reading on the bus.

“The way this works is, when students get on the bus they can get up to three books,” Callison said. “After they read those, they can share with students around them, then put them in the bucket on the way out the door.”

She went on to say that the students have started reading to each other. On Friday afternoons, a high school or middle school student also acts as the day’s “special guest reader.”

“They pick out a book, sit on the front seat and read it over the speaker to the whole bus,” she said. “They love this!”

Facebook users have been praising Callison for this incredible idea, pointing out that it is such a great way to get children interested in reading and to make it fun for them. Not to mention, it’s a fantastic way to spice up the monotony of a boring bus ride to and from school!
