Fans of the CBS crime drama “Criminal Minds” are saddened right now after it was announced that the show would be coming to an end after it’s 15th season.
CBS has just renewed the show for it’s final season, which will consist of ten episodes. The show is currently filming it’s 14th season, and it will stay in production to finish out the 15th.
“It is the quintessential CBS hit. We are so proud to have aired it,” said CBS’ EVP of current programs, Amy Reisenbach. “It speaks to everything we do best, which is air quality television. It’s been successful not only on air but online, in syndication, internationally for ABC [Studios].”
News of the show’s cancellation came as a huge surprise to fans. When the show celebrated it’s 300th episode in the fall, executive producer Erica Messer said that she could “see this show going another 300 episodes.”
“It is a world that has endless stories because it’s based on the psychology of human behavior—that’s endless,” she said. “As long as we have heroes who want to keep chasing the bad guys I feel like we could keep going, and going, and going.”
Cast members of the show are undoubtedly devastated, as they have all developed close relationships with one another throughout the show’s run.
“We genuinely hang out on weekends and we have giant text chains and email chains,” said actress Paget Brewster. “We genuinely enjoy each other.”
Fans have been voicing their frustrations at “Criminal Minds'” cancellation on Twitter.
