FedEx driver Amanda Riggan was out making deliveries when she heard a call from God that had her dropping everything to go pray with a woman who needed the love of Jesus to ease her troubled soul.
When Amanda’s not working at FedEx, she tries to honor God by giving back to her community. One of her favorite things to do is surprise veterans and first responders with her homemade barbecue cooking. One day, during her shift with FedEx, God gave Amanda the chance to help a grieving woman in need.
When Amanda stopped to deliver two packages to her home, the woman happened to be outside checking her mailbox. Amanda made conversation with the woman as she walked to her door, and when she asked her how her holidays were, the woman decided to tell her the truth.
“I was like ‘How was your holidays?’ And with tears in her eyes, she said it wasn’t good,” Amanda recalled. “She said, ‘He’s sick. My husband’s sick. He has cancer.’”
Amanda had no idea how to respond, so she politely changed the subject. As she pulled away from the house, however, she could not help but feel her heartstrings being pulled.
“My heart’s pounding. I do probably twenty more stops and I have to go back,” the driver said.
Though Amanda was on the clock and had a tight schedule to keep, she knew she had to go back.
“I stopped what I was doing. I went back to that neighborhood and rang her doorbell,” Amanda explained. “She came down the stairs, she had tears in her eyes when she saw it was me — she smiled, and I said ‘Ma’am can I pray with you?’ And she just broke down. She came out on the front porch and squeezed me so tight.”
Amanda decided to go public with her story as a challenge of sorts for the rest of us.
“I pray every day for the Lord to use me, but when He’s trying to use you or when you feel that call, and that tug on your heartstrings, do you move your feet? Do you move?” she asked.
“If you’re praying for the Lord to help and to use you in people’s situations, when He is giving you a chance, do it,” Amanda concluded. “Be sure you know what you’re praying for when you’re praying.”
God bless Amanda for taking the time to show compassion to this woman! Watch her share the story below.
