Most of us are familiar with the famous action actor Dwayne Johnson, but long before he became a Hollywood icon, he was known as a stud in the wrestling ring. Known as “The Rock” he was a champion in the WWE circuit and remembers fondly the night he went face to face against wrestling icon Hulk Hogan.
Johnson recently took to Instagram, where he’s the ninth most followed person, and recalled the 16th anniversary of Wrestlemania X8. The event was held in Toronto’s Skydome, now known as the Rogers Center and was sponsored by Skittles.
The year was 2002 and the arena was filled with some 78,000 people there to watch the epic match. There would be eight matches in total, with the main match between The Rock and Hulk Hogan.

Johnson remembers when Vince McMahon approached him about the possibility of a match up between Hogan and himself.
He immediately loved the idea and knew what a great business deal it would be for both he and Hogan. He also knew the fans would flood to the venue to watch a match of this magnitude.
He says he’s glad he had the opportunity to make history and break records with Hogan. He says the match was similar to when Andre the Giant wrestled Hulk Hogan in Wrestlemania III and passed the baton on to Hogan who reigned in the ring for over a decade after. This time, it was Hogan who passed the baton on to The Rock.

More than 101 million people applauded Johnson for his post to Instagram saying it made them feel like they were 16 years old again, and they enjoyed every single match ‘back then’. Followers said they loved seeing The Rock on television and his legacy will last forever.
Sounds like Johnson wasn’t the only one that has fond memories of his time as The Rock.
