With all the negativity in the world today, it’s always nice to see a story go viral in which people perform kind deeds for each one another. Now, a Good Samaritan couple has reminded everyone that there is still good in the world after what they did for a frantic father!
A Vietnamese man was recently out looking at Christmas lights with his wife and baby in Long Beach, California when he set the diaper bag he was carrying down on the sidewalk to take a picture of one display. Once he had taken the photo, he forgot about the bag, and they went on their way.
While losing a diaper bag would not normally be the end of the world, in this case, contents in the bag were significant. The bag contained $5,000 in cash as well as important travel documents, like the family’s passports. As soon as he realized that he had lost the bag, the father went into panic mode, assuming he would never see it again.
Later that same night, 24-year-old Gabriel Ruiz and his girlfriend Gabriela Jauregui stopped to take a photo of the same display when they noticed the bag on the sidewalk. They stayed near it in the hopes that someone would return to claim it. No one returned for the bag, so the couple opened the bag to see what was inside. Needless to say, they were stunned by what they saw.
While many would have pocketed the cash, Gabriel and Gabriela did not even consider doing that. Instead, they knew right away that they had to track down the owner of the bag.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese man returned to the area and spent hours searching frantically for the bag.
“I thought how can I get back to my country?” the man said. “How can I pay my tuition? My rent? I already have a baby.”
The next morning, the couple finally found a compartment inside of the bag that contained the man’s contact details. They immediately called the number, and he was incredibly touched when he realized they would give his bag back to him!
“All I can say is thank you, thank you,” the man them. “You just saved my life.”
We applaud Gabriel and Gabriela for doing the right thing and reuniting this man with his bag! Find out more about this in the video below.
