The 2018 Kennedy Center Honors just took place, and one of the best moments of it came when Kelly Clarkson paid an emotional tribute to country music legend Reba McEntire.
“Sometimes when we meet our heroes, it doesn’t always pan out, you know, how you hope,” Kelly said before her performance. “But meeting Reba, being friends with her, and eventually becoming family has been one of the highlights of my life.”
“Thank you so much for comforting me on the phone through my tears, like a friend,” Kelly added. “And thank you for being a really rad grandma for my kids.”
Kelly then performed “Fancy,” which was a popular hit from Reba’s album Rumor Has It. After she finished, Kelly looked right at Reba and said “I hope I did it justice.” Reba responded by giving Kelly a standing ovation.
Social media users were incredibly touched by how emotional Kelly was.

It’s so touching to see Kelly pay tribute to her idol in such a beautiful way. Both Reba and Kelly are known not only for their talent, but also for being incredibly down to Earth women. That’s why it is so fitting that Kelly was brought in to pay tribute to Reba during the Kennedy Center Honors!
