The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a recall this week for eight brands of dog food that officials say may contain toxic levels of Vitamin D.
The officials warned that the recalled products contained dangerously high levels of Vitamin D that could harm dogs. They made sure to add that of the recalled brands, only their dog foods are dangerous to consume, whereas foods that are sold for other pets are safe.
The eight brands of dog food that were recalled are: Nutrisca, Natural Life Pet Products, Sunshine Mills, Inc., ANF, Inc., Lidl (Orlando brand), Kroger, ELM Pet Foods, Inc., and Ahold Delhaize.

The FDA released a statement saying that “Testing found that samples of the dog food contained excessive, potentially toxic amounts of vitamin D,” in some cases as much as 70 times the intended amount.
Toxic levels of Vitamin D can cause symptoms like vomiting, weakness, and increased urination. However, dangerously toxic levels of Vitamin D can lead to kidney failure and even death. The FDA said that any dog owner who observes their pets exhibiting any one of these symptoms should take them to the veterinarian immediately.
