One of the toughest sacrifices that members of the U.S. military and their families have to make is spending Christmas away from their loved ones. That’s why volunteers at Wahmhoff Farm Nursery in Gobles, Michigan decided to come together this year to do something for military families during the Christmas season.
“It’s a nice little touch to give them a feeling of home,” said farm owner Dan Wahmhoff.
Earlier this month, the annual Trees for Troops event took place at Wahmhoff Farm. Thanks to this event, almost 600 Christmas trees will be sent to military homes at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base in North Carolina.
“Folks like yourself coming here to volunteer your time in this kind of weather, it’s just so great,” Dan told the volunteers as snow fell around them. “I think we all appreciate our troops.”
FedEx is covering all transportation costs of the trees, which will be driven 890 miles to North Carolina.
“We’re just one of the participants,” Dan explained. “We happen to be a centrally located farm. So other farms bring their trees here.”
The military families are set to receive their trees this week!
It’s wonderful to see people come together to do something special for our military families.
