The holiday season is finally upon us, which means millions of Americans are rushing to get their Christmas shopping done. As we head into peak shopping season, police have a clear warning to shoppers that they would do well to listen to.
The Windham Police Department in New Hampshire just took to Facebook to share a tip that could save you from having your credit cards stolen while you’re shopping.
“A holiday shopping safety tip for women,” the department wrote. “When using a shopping cart as you browse through the store, keep your purse zipped or closed and secure it to the cart by clipping the child safety belt through the strap(s). This will help in preventing someone from taking advantage of your distraction and running off with the purse.”
“For those carts that don’t have the child strap, keep an inexpensive carabiner clip attached to your purse strap,” the police officers continued. “Simply clip the carabiner to the cart and your purse is more secure. HAPPY SHOPPING!”
Carabiner clips can be relatively inexpensive, so this trick is both simple and cheap to do. It only takes a second to clip your purse to your cart, but it could save you tons of trouble.
This comes after a police department in Oregon went public with a scam in which one criminal distracts elderly women at a store while another snatched her valuables out of her purse. These criminals have stolen six people’s credit cards and bought thousands of dollars worth of gift cards with them. This trick of clipping your purse to your cart can stop criminals from doing the same thing to you!
