A Charlie Brown Christmas first aired on television in December 1965 and it is now a Christmas classic for families all over. Even after 53 years, it is still enthralling adults and kids alike.
But there is one moment in the show that has went unnoticed for many years. We all know and love the character Linus. He’s a shy kid that carries his blue blanket everywhere for security.
However, during one scene, Linus, right in the middle of speaking, drops his beloved blanket. Although Charlie Brown, Lucy, and all the others had worked relentlessly to get him to separate with his beloved blanket, their efforts had never worked.

Although Linus is otherwise a mature and thoughtful kid, his blanket remains a source of ridicule. But when Linus shares his version about the meaning of Christmas, he manages to drop his blanket.
In the climatic scene, Linus utters the words, “fear not” and drops his security blanket. It is pretty clear what the creator of the show, Charles Schultz, was trying to say.
The birth of Jesus means so many things. It separates us from our fears and the habit of things that we cannot break ourselves. It allows us to cling to him instead of things here on earth.
The world today can be a scary place, and many of us have earthly things that we cling to for comfort and security. But if we really want to find peace, we need to learn from a cartoon that was meant to give us meaning in 1965, and let it go.
