Some 26 million kids ride a school bus or other school vehicle to school every year. Out of those children, some 136 people die in accidents involving these vehicles annually. While that may not sound like many deaths considering how many people ride school buses or other school vehicles daily, no child should have to be worried about whether they are safe or not when riding a bus to school.

Sadly, it seems like over the past few weeks there has been a spike in these accidents and consequent deaths of children due to an abundance of people failing to stop for a school bus that has stopped to pick up or drop off children.

No one should ever be in such a hurry to get to work, a meeting, or anywhere for that matter, that they can’t stop for the safety of a child. Plus, it’s illegal to pass a stopped school bus.

One bus driver decided to take matters into her own hands and position her bus in a manner that she hoped was less likely to result in a deadly accident during her bus route. All of the drivers for this particular school district employed the same tactic and positioned their buses across both lanes of traffic before picking up a child.

While this tactic isn’t fool proof, they hope that people will be more likely to see a big yellow bus and stop as opposed to a stop sign sticking off the side of the bus.

And the response to the video that caught this bus in the act has already been viewed 1.8 million times and shared over 30,00 times on social media.

Check out the maneuver in the video below and share it with your family and friends to see what they think. I think we need to take all steps necessary to try to protect our kids.

With all the school bus accidents recently, I'd like to thank my bus driver and school district with coming up with a safe and common sense solution to minimize the danger of my children getting on the bus. This is not fail proof, however you may notice a large yellow vehicle parked across your lane better than a flashing stop sign. PLEASE be cautious and patient when you see a school bus, these are kids?? No meeting, reservation or class is worth ruining lives forever….
