Everyone can use good cooking tips, especially when it comes to this time of year. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this unusual turkey cooking tip may be just what you need to elevate the taste of your thanksgiving feast.

We all know that a turkey that is golden brown and perfectly moist is the ideal turkey, but it isn’t the easiest thing to achieve. Consequently, we’re always on the search for perfecting our holiday bird.

While this tip may sound a bit odd, you will be delightfully surprised with the results. All you need are a few basic ingredients for this recipe called the Upside Down Roasted Turkey.

You will need a thawed or fresh turkey, roughly 18 pounds, one loaf of unsliced bread, one stick of unsalted butter, salt and pepper, a seasoning blend (if you like), butcher’s twine, and a roasting pan.

Begin by preheating your oven to 425 degrees. Next, make the bread level by cutting off the hump on the top, then cut it down the middle, but not all the way through. It needs to stay connected in the middle.

Open the bread up and place it inside the roasting pan with the inside facing up. Butter both inside areas of the bread. Mix two tablespoons of salt and two tablespoons of pepper in a bowl and then sprinkle them over the turkey. This is also where you use your seasoning blend.

To prepare the turkey for the pan, tuck the neck skin under the under the body and tuck the wings under the breast. Last, use the butcher’s twine to tie the legs together.

Next, place the turkey on top of the buttered bread, but with the breast side down and the underneath of the bird facing up. Add more seasoning and salt and pepper over the bird if you’d like.

Now it’s ready to roast. Place the roaster on the bottom rack of your oven and cook for 45 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and turn the turkey over. You can accomplish this by using a long handled spoon and hand towel.

Reduce the heat in your oven to 350 degrees and with the breast side up, cook for an additional hour and 30 minutes. Be sure to baste the turkey every 15 to 20 minutes.

When the 90 minutes is up, your turkey should be golden brown with an internal temperature of 165 degrees. It should be taken out of the oven and allowed to rest for 30 minutes before carving.

Who would have thought that the secret to a moist turkey was a loaf of bread? Be sure to share this recipe with your family and friends.
